For my redesign of The Wicked King by Holly Black, I continued the watercolor aesthetic established in The Cruel Prince while shifting the visual atmosphere to feel fully submerged underwater. Soft washes of blue and green distort the branches, berries, and delicate natural elements, creating a dreamlike sense of depth and danger that mirrors the novel’s escalating tension. At the center, I incorporated a gold-embossed crown and ring—symbols pulled directly from the story—to highlight themes of power, deceit, and shifting loyalties. The final design feels fluid and immersive, echoing the treacherous pull of the ocean and the political undercurrents that define the narrative.
